April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) – a time to honor survivors and to confront a hard truth many people don’t realize: sexual assault is most often perpetrated by someone the survivor knows and trusts.
For many survivors in Marin County, sexual violence does not come from a stranger in a dark alley. It happens in homes, dorm rooms, and long‑term relationships – woven into patterns of control, coercion, and intimate partner abuse. This reality can make harm harder to recognize, name, and escape.
