Dear Supporters,

We are excited to announce that Deputy Executive Director Kate Kain will be retiring on June 30, 2025, after an extraordinary 28-year career dedicated to ending dating and domestic violence at Center for Domestic Peace (C4DP). Kate leaves behind a remarkable legacy of transformative change, impacting the lives of countless individuals in Marin County and beyond.

Since joining C4DP in 1997, Kate has been a pillar of strength and inspiration within the organization. Her leadership has not only transformed C4DP but has also reshaped the way Marin County addresses domestic violence at every level—individual, community, and institutional. With a heart dedicated to service, Kate has developed innovative curricula, training programs, and initiatives designed to engage both the most vulnerable and the most influential members of our community. Her tireless efforts have been focused on enhancing safety for survivors and fostering meaningful change in those who perpetrate abuse.

Throughout her remarkable tenure, Kate has overseen critical emergency programs, ensuring support is available 24/7, and has been a catalyst for creating comprehensive response protocols across various sectors, including criminal justice, legal, law enforcement, medical, mental health, child protection, and spiritual communities. Her commitment to prevention is evident in the powerful bullying, dating, and domestic violence curricula she has developed for schools and communities. In addition to her work developing intervention and prevention curricula for schools and communities, Kate designed training programs for those seeking to prevent or end domestic violence and dating abuse.

Kate’s passion for healing and connection led her to author C4DP’s family therapy program In This Together and she has been instrumental in fostering collaborative community efforts aimed at engaging in all sectors of Marin that touch the lives of survivors, abusers, and child witnesses. One of her most significant contributions was the development of C4DP’s Law Enforcement Pocket Card, in collaboration with the Marin County District Attorney, which has become a cornerstone strategy that has led to the decline of Marin’s domestic violence crime rate for over 10 consecutive years.

Kate also played a key role in launching initiatives focused on engaging Marin’s underserved and most vulnerable communities through her welcoming invitations to survivors and community members to share their experiences and insights which have greatly enriched C4DP programs. Most recently she connected C4DP to a unique prevention campaign in the African American community, including the impactful program known as RAP (Raising Awareness & Prevention), which focuses on preventing both domestic violence and dating violence through hip-hop music and lyrics written by and for young men of color.

Kate’s extensive experience and passion for social justice led to the establishment of the Marin Coordinated Community Response to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Network (CCR ), a groundbreaking initiative recognized nationally for its innovative, multi-sector approach to coordinating the efforts of Marin’s institutions addressing domestic violence.

Throughout her tenure, Kate has received multiple accolades for her contributions to the field, including recognition from the California State Assembly in 1985 and being honored as a YWCA Marin Hall of Fame alumni. Her leadership has not only advanced systemic change but has also engaged and empowered countless community members, including youth, to take an active role in promoting healthy and respectful relationships.

“Kate Kain’s unwavering commitment and visionary leadership have left a profound impact on our community,” said Cynthia Murray, Board Co-Chair of C4DP. “Her passion, resilience, and steadfast commitment to ending domestic violence have inspired countless individuals. Kate’s dedication has laid a strong foundation for our ongoing work in ending domestic violence and supporting survivors, ensuring that the impact of her efforts will be felt for years to come.”

As she embarks on her new journey, she leaves behind a strong and capable team, ready to carry forward the vital work of C4DP. We wish her much joy, and time and space to follow her other passions and spend quality time with her family.

With heartfelt gratitude to Kate and her contributions,

Tara Peterson
