Get Help For Children Who Witness Domestic Violence

Studies suggest that 15 million children are exposed to violence in the home each year in the United States.

Domestic violence can have a devastating effect on a survivor parent, as well as children who witness the abuse. How do these children heal from the fear that something bad will happen again or the threats they have heard one parent shout at another? How does a survivor mother connect to her child who has withdrawn or her son or daughter who is acting out? How should children relate to the survivor parent, as well as the abuser parent?

Join one of our therapy groups online, or C4DP offers individual and family therapy for survivors and their children. For more information: 415-526-2553.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

You as a parent may have left an abusive relationship or you may still be in one. One of the most important factors that help children do well after experiencing domestic violence is a strong relationship with a caring, nonviolent parent. Your support can make the difference between fear and security, and can provide a foundation for a healthier future.

As a caring parent, you can promote your children’s recovery by connecting to Center for Domestic Peace, (or taking similar steps to increase safety in the family) –  helping your kids develop relationships with other supportive adults and encouraging them in school or other activities that make them feel happy and proud.

If you feel unsafe now and need help for yourself, your family or someone else in a domestic crisis call:
